Position Objective

The primary objective of this position is to provide valuable content to our email newsletter subscribers on a regular basis in order to serve the trials community as well as retain and build our subscriber base. Newsletters will include highlighted content from across our different channels, pointers to related trials content of interest, and exclusive content. A secondary objective is to drive more subscribers to the email newsletter.

Responsibilities & Duties

The primary responsibilities and duties in this role include (not limited to):

  • Work with the founder to define the objectives and strategy for the email newsletter
  • Establish a regular cadence for issuing the newsletter
  • Develop ideas for the types of content to provide via the email newsletter
  • Coordinate newsletter issue topics with the content manager and/or founder
  • Develop each newsletter by selecting topics, collecting applicable information (e.g., existing content to highlight), and writing exclusive newsletter content
  • Provide newsletter content to the founder for review and publication

Secondary responsibilities include (no limited to) researching and proposing techniques to grow the email newsletter subscriber base.

Impact of This Role

Building and sustaining a large email subscriber list yields a powerful opt-in communications channel that provides a valuable service to the trials community and an opportunity for our brand. Additionally, while we have an opportunity to connect with our audience, we also have the obligation to avoid “spamming” them.

Subscribers – The newsletter must provide valuable content to our subscribers. It conveniently puts content in their inbox that they might have missed or forgotten to seek. People don’t necessarily think of going to our website regularly, so the newsletter provides a regular reminder for them to come back. Additionally, subscribers might not follow us across all channels or be aware of all features we offer, so the newsletter is an opportunity to inform them.

Our brand – The newsletter provides an opportunity to earn enough trust from our audience that they subscribe, stay subscribed, and forward the newsletters to other potential subscribers. It allows us to provide them with curated content that positively reflects our brand as well as calls to action that drive traffic to our various content channels or potential sales (e.g. channel merch, Patreon, and other future offerings that help offset our operating costs).
