Position Objective

The purpose of this role is to produce both long-form and short-form video content from existing “raw” video. The initial objective is to edit videos generated by the founder. Our longer-term goal is to increase the number and types of videos as well as to add more video creators. This could require a team of video editors. Target platforms include YouTube, Instagram, and Patreon, but could include others in the future.

Responsibilities & Duties

The primary responsibilities and duties in this role include (not limited to):

  • Coordinate with the founder and content manager to understand and meet deadlines for editing each video
  • Collaborate with the founder, videographer, and content manager prior to beginning each edit project (and during if necessary) to ensure that each final video product meets the intent of the video creator and the brand
  • Download raw video from shared space (e.g., Google Drive)
  • Edit long-form videos (e.g., weekly group rides, video series, one-offs, riding edits)
  • Edit short form videos (e.g., promotions, announcements, teasers, video series)
  • Create shorts from long-form to be used for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, etc. (includes conversion from 16:9 to 9:16 and using keyframes)
  • Generate text or graphical overlays, chroma key, video speed, and other effects as required to meet the purposes of each video
  • Coordinate with video creators to add voice overlays to select videos (you don’t have to do the narrating; the videos creators can do that)
  • Coordinate with video creators to add music for select videos (without copyright violations)
  • Submit completed edits to the founder for review (brand standards, quality, meets the intent/objectives, etc.)
  • Revise edits based on founder review
  • Upload completed videos and shorts to YouTube
  • Generate framegrab stills from completed video edits (interesting shots and potentially to use as YouTube thumbnails)
  • Provide completed final edits and video project files to the founder to archive for potential future use
  • Generate “best of” edits at the end of each calendar including highlights edits, and fails edits
  • Provide ideas and feedback to the founder and video creators on the team to enable improvements in filming to support editing, video production, etc.

Disclaimers:

  1. You will be expected to provide your own video editing software. The founder uses Cyberlink PowerDirector, but this is not a hard requirement for video editors.
  2. This Is Bike Trials! will retain the rights to all videos that we provide to you for editing as well as all of the edits that you produce therefrom.

Impact of This Role

This Is Bike Trials! started out as a YouTube project with a simple purpose that has continued to expand. Even though he enjoys the process of editing video, the founder is limited to the number and frequency of videos he can produce by himself, as well as the other types of content he can create. By editing our videos, you will allow the founder to focus on other efforts to build the brand and add value to the trials community. Especially since trials riders are spread out sparsely across the globe, video provides a way to connect, share, entertain, and teach, so it will remain a core element of our brand. Furthermore, we plan to expand our breadth of video offerings, which will not be possible without help and/or eliminating other offerings. Finally, you will have the potential to improve the quality of our edits, support more experimentation in our videos, and increase our viewing metrics and subscriptions.
